Low Fell Community Preschool opened in September 2020 as a CiC - it means all money goes back into the pre-school. We had previously all worked at or been involved with The Hardman Centre Pre-School, when it closed we knew it was vital for a Pre-School to stay in the area, so we worked with previous parents/colleges and were able to set up a community interest company. After securing a building and buying back some of our equipment we then started with a small number of children in 1 class and 4 staff. Now we have gone strength to strength and grown to 3 classes with 10 staff.

Birth to 5 Curriculum

We follow the Birth to 5 curriculum, creating playful, meaningful learning experiences that support children’s development across all early years areas. Through hands-on exploration, gentle guidance, and lots of fun, we help each child build the foundations they need for their future learning.

Our Mission

Our mission is to give every child a happy, safe place to play, learn, and grow as they get ready for "big school". We encourage curiousity and kindness. Most importantly, we welcome children of all abilities, including those with SEN, into a preschool community where every family feels valued and included.

What do we do day-to-day with the children?

Birth to 5

We follow the Birth to 5 curriculum, giving children a playful, supportive start to learning. Through hands‑on exploration, early language development, physical play, and gentle emotional guidance, we help each child build strong foundations for the years ahead. Every activity is designed to be fun, meaningful, and perfectly suited to their stage of development.

Communication & Language

Building early speech, listening skills, and confidence in expressing ideas.

Physical Development

Strengthening movement, coordination, and self‑care skills through active play.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

Helping children feel secure, form friendships, and understand their emotions.

Literacy & Numeracy Foundations

Introducing early reading, mark‑making, counting, and number awareness in playful ways.

Low Fell preschool classes

What classes do you have in the preschool?

Dear grown-ups, this is how we group our children, typically in 3 types: Apples, Strawberries and Pineapples. Even if they are in different classes, the classes mix and make the most of the large outdoor space.

Apples (2+ Years)

This class is for our youngest children starting at 2 years old. It is a room full of learning through play and exploring. With a cosy sleep area, and a designated area to help support potty training.

Pineapples (3+ years)

This class is for our children that turn 3, but aren't pre-school age, they are ready for a bit more structure their their play move from Apples. With lots of age appropriate toys too have fun with.

Strawberries - Pre-School class

This is our pre-school class for children due to start school the following September. We have more structure to our day, introduce phonics and prepare for school, promoting Independence while providing lots of opportunities to play.
