Everything you need to know about us

We know it can be a daunting exercise researching where to send your little one when you need childcare. So we've gathered all the information you need to help re-assure you on the decision making. We know there are all kinds of setups, so feel free to read about how we operate, our classes and the staff.

A visit is always welcome and we're happy to take your questions to put your mind at rest.
Things For Kids

What activities do we do in the preschool?

We have a wide range of activities covering the 7 areas of learning.
The Three Prime areas
Communication and Language- Listening, speaking and understanding words
Physical Development- Moving- Gross motor and fine motor and learning healthy habits
Personal, social and emotional- building confidence, making relationships and managing feelings
The Four Specific Areas
Literacy- Reading, books and writing early words
Mathematics- Numbers, understanding patterns, problem solving and exploring shapes
Understanding the world- learning about nature, communities and history
Expressive arts and design- being creative through, art, music, role-play and making things
Easing the start of Pre-school
Parents/Carers/Grown-ups are welcome to stay with their child until both are happy about separation. Parents/Carers will be re-assured that they will be contacted to return to Pre-school if their child is distressed in any way during the settling in period.
Waiting List
We operate a waiting list, which parents/careers can place their child's name on, children will be admitted in the following order (1 being the highest priority for a place):
1. The eldest on the list.
2. The child with his/her name on first.
3. Children living in the local area.
4. Children who are 4 years old and moving to the area will be given priority.
5. Children in need, including looked after children will be given priority.
6. Children attending another setting will not be given priority.
Notification of a place
Pre-school Manager will advise Parent/Career when a space becomes available for their child. A letter/email will be sent out to the child's home inviting to Parent/Carer to contact Pre-school to discuss their child's place.
Funding Places
We offer;
9 month old funding for Children in the term that they turn 2. - 30 Hours Childcare for eligible working families. (from their 2nd Birthday)

2 Year Old 15 hours free early learning and childcare if their families receive certain benefits.

2, 3 and 4 year Olds 30 hours Childcare for eligible working families in England

3-4 Year old 15 Childcare for all families in England

Where it all began

Low Fell Community Preschool opened in September 2020. We had previously all worked at or been involved with The Hardman Centre Pre-School, when it closed we knew it was vital for a Pre-School to stay in the area, so we worked with previous parents/colleges and were able to set up a Community Interest Company. Now here we are! Thriving!

Community & Environment

We have themed indoor spaces, sensory areas, creative corners and quiet spaces. Large secure outdoor play and a Cricket field. The biggest advantage is our community, you as families, local partnerships, and being part of Low Fell. Being a Community Interest Company means all our funds go back into the Children, weather this be buying new toys and equipment, or upgrading the kitchen to supporting individual families.

Creative Activites

We provide fun gluing and sticking, painting, chalks and paints. Song time and song bags. Story time with story bags. Playdough, playdough cutters and rolling pins, natural materials. Creating structures with construction. Small world with house, farms, castles people animal, dinosaurs

Physical Activities

We have a large outside play area, with a half grass and half hard surface for bikes, scooters, coupe cars, buggies and babies. We have balance tires, slides and seesaw benches, large lego blocks chalks, small world, sand and water hula hoops, balls, dinosaurs and animal. Diggers for the sand and to ride on. Bubbles, bats and balls, parachutes games. sticky kids music and movements

Understanding the world

Role play, large kitchen home area, with resources similar to you would find at home. food, babies, pets, dressing up, pots and pans, toy kettle and microwave. till and money for playing shops. small world to act out life experiences. every year we get real caterpillars and watch the life cycle of a butterfly, where we get to care for and release our own butterfly. We watch the seasons through out the year on the cricket field and go off an investigate

Literacy and Mathematics

Number games, number blocks, jigsaws, counting games, sorting bears, shapes, pegs and boards, magnets, numicon, building blocks, bricks, ramps and cars. Drawing, writing, tracing, books, reading corner, library time, phonics, letters and sounds, chalk boards, wipeable pens, colouring, stencils, song time, story time, song and story bags and Puppets.

Daily Routine

  1. Children arrive at 8.45am
  2. All welcomed by staff
  3. Children try and hang up their own coats, bags and put pack lunch on trolley
  4. 9.00am Registration time on the carpet, Hello song and discuss "what are we going to do today?" we might have a story or song bag
  5. Small group time with keyworker
  6. Learning through play
  7. Small tidy up
  8. Snack time
  9. Outside play
  10. . Song, story time or sticky kids
  11. Lunchtime or home time
  12. .Registration for the afternoon
  13. Learning time on the carpet, including singnig, letters, number, PSED games

  19. End of the day - "what did you learn today?"; lots of discussion finish with a story

Meet our Class Mascots

Children take it in turns to take home our class mascot, you get to spend the weekend together, have lots of fun and a sleepover. then ask your grown up to write in the book and add some photos or send them to us on tapestry or by email. you can then share with your friends what you have been doing.

Library Time

Every week your child chooses a library book with their keyworker to bring home and to enjoy with your family. reading is such a lovely time to share with your child, maybe at bedtime or after tea.
